14933 Blackwood Lane Barry has a B.Sc. from Simon Fraser University and a M.Sc. (Biochemistry) and M.Sc. (Health Services Planning) from the University of British Columbia. He applies his expertise in complex adaptive systems in the areas of organizational development and design, coaching and mentoring leaders and facilitating team development activities. Barry also designs and facilitates systems thinking sessions, leadership and team development workshops and competency-based training programs. He brings a strong strategic planning focus to his work based on his extensive background experience in this area. He is an accomplished speaker and presenter and has facilitated national, provincial and regional level conference sessions on a variety of topics related to his areas of interest and expertise. Over the past few years, a substantial portion of Barry’s consulting practice has been focused on supporting clients who are dealing with the challenges of change and transition, particularly in the health care and government sectors. Designing and facilitating customized change management sessions and workshops compliment this area of practice. His expertise is applied in helping teams and project groups bring coherence and accountability to their work together, using a variety of approaches and organizational development practices. He has over 25 years of senior executive experience in the health care and high technology sectors with over 10 years as a senior provincial government official in both the Provinces of Alberta and British Columbia. Barry has strong organizational and planning skills and has extensive experience in applying his expertise to challenging and complex issues. Barry is a faculty member of Royal Roads University, the University of British Columbia and the Banff Centre for Leadership. In these roles, he teaches leadership and systems theory and supervises master’s level students. Barry has served as a Fellow of the Institute for the Study of Complexity and Emergence (ISCE) and is an associate of the Center for Self-Organizing Leadership based in Niagara Falls, New York. Most recently, Barry has published papers on complexity and self-organizing leadership in the Journal of Emergence and in the ISSS Conference 2002 Proceedings. He is currently exploring transformational leadership in relation to strategic, operational and self-organizing leadership practices. Barry’s primary consulting interest is in the areas of leadership, organizational development and systems/complexity. His clients include many large and medium sized private sector firms, large provincial government related organizations and community agencies. Barry lives in White Rock, B.C. with his wife and two sons.
